Hyungjoo is active in the firm’s pro bono practice. She has represented a military family in actions against former landlords in state and federal court and a victim of domestic violence in a Violence Against Women Act self-petition. She also has conducted and defended depositions on behalf of the New York City Law Department. In addition, Hyungjoo is deeply involved in Cadwalader’s diversity initiatives. She previously served as chair of the firm’s Asian Pacific American Attorney Resource Group (CAPAA) and served as the firm’s 2021 Fellow for the New York City Bar Associate Leadership Institute.
Hyungjoo received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she was Senior Editor of the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Constitutional Law, and her B.A., summa cum laude, from Northwestern University. She began her career at Cadwalader in the firm’s New York office. Prior to rejoining the firm, Hyungjoo served as a Trial Attorney with the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey. As a federal prosecutor, Hyungjoo investigated and prosecuted individuals and corporations in criminal matters involving health care fraud, wire fraud, violations of the Anti-Kickback Statute and the Controlled Substances Act, and money laundering. She also served as a law clerk to the Honorable John P. Cronan of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Hyungjoo is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, New York, Texas, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
