Matthew Peters is a partner in Cadwalader’s Corporate and Real Estate practices and is based in the firm's London office.
Matt’s practice focuses on corporate real estate and real estate private equity, including corporate and investment property acquisitions and disposals, joint ventures, and corporate restructurings and reorganizations, particularly with regard to hotel portfolios, residential, healthcare, student accommodation, logistics and retail sites, with a focus on developments. He has experience advising both U.K. and international clients operating across a variety of jurisdictions and regularly works on significant cross-border transactions.
Matt has been repeatedly recognized for his commitment to client service and legal excellence. Chambers UK has ranked him as “Up and Coming” in its Hotels and Leisure (UK-wide) category in 2026 (having been ranked as “Associate to Watch” in 2024 – 2025), and an “Associate to Watch” in its Real Estate £150 million and above (London) category every year since 2021.

Matt holds an M.A. law degree from the University of Oxford, and was called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn in 2008. He also completed his Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, London.

Advising a Mohari/Omnam Group joint venture on its corporate acquisition and refinancing of the Bauer Hotel development project in Venice, Italy.
Advising a leading global real estate investment firm on its co-investment financing of a £200m luxury residential development project in North Hampstead, London.
Acting for Cerberus Capital Management/Highgate Hotels joint venture on its acquisition of the Dorsett Hotel in Aldgate, London.
Acting for Cerberus Capital Management on its acquisition and development of the Hurlingham Retail Park site in Fulham.
Starwood Capital on:
The corporate sale of 12 U.K. hotels forming part of the Principal Hotel Company to Foncière des Murs for a purchase price in excess of $1 billion — winner of Hot.E Deal of the Year 2018; and
Its €200m Spanish multi-hotel portfolio sale to a Melia-Banca March joint venture
A Goldman Sachs/Highgate Hotels joint venture on its disposal of the pan-European 10 hotel K+K portfolio with a headline purchase price in excess of $550 million.
Acted for a Meyer Bergman JV on the Hotel PE aspects relating to the £1bn acquisition of the Whiteleys development project in Bayswater, London, including negotiations with Six Senses for its hotel and branded residences development within the site.
Advising Bank of Montreal on the real estate aspects of its $615m bridge financing to Alpha Auto Group in relation to its bid acquisition of Lookers plc.
Acted for Citigroup on its proposed underwriting of Sun Communities £900m acquisition of Park Holidays' UK-wide 40-site leisure park portfolio.
Acting for a Bain Capital/Stoneweg Capital JV on the hotel and development management arrangement for the Kimpton Los Monteros Resort in Marbella, Spain.
Advising the Bain Capital/Omnam Group JV on all Hotel PE aspects of the hotel and development management projects for the Marriott Edition, Lake Como; Radisson Blu, Florence; and Park Hyatt, Rome Hotels.
Advising Omnam Group on the hotel and development management arrangements for the Four Seasons Hotel and Branded Residences in Puglia, Italy; Baccarat Hotel, Florence; and dual branded Sheraton - Moxy Hotel at ‘Les Mercuriales' Towers in Paris.
Acting for a JV of Benson Elliott, Walton Street and Schroeders on its corporate sale of the Sheraton Hotel in Warsaw to Patron Capital.
Acting for Evelyn Partners in relation to all real estate aspects of the creditors' voluntary arrangement with respect to the Group First's UK-wide airport car parking portfolio.
Advising Reuben Brothers on the hotel and development management arrangements for the Corinthia Hotel project in Parliament Square, Rome and the Mondrian Hotel in Shoreditch, London.
Advising Lenox Investments on the hotel and development management arrangements for the Marriott W Hotel and Edition Resort projects in Herzliya, Tel Aviv and Arava, Israel.
Acted for Evans Randall on the following disposals:
£375m corporate sale of Riverbank House in London to Oxygen Asset Management;
£110m corporate sale of the Lakeshore Business Park to Frasers Real Estate; and
£70 asset disposal of offices at 90 Fetter Lane, London to Deka.
Advising Activum SG on its acquisition of three retirement living development sites within the London green belt.
A UK-based property development group with a real estate investment portfolio in excess of £2 billion on its fundamental corporate reorganisation and demerger.
Attestor Capital on its management and franchise arrangements with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group for the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Lake Como.
Tristan Capital on its acquisition of a U.K.-wide retail park portfolio, with a consideration in excess of £250 million.
STT Telemedia on the acquisition of Virtus Data Centres, with a consideration in excess of £225 million.
