Jayshree Balakrishnan is an associate in Cadwalader’s Global Litigation Group. She represents clients in a variety of complex commercial disputes, before both state and federal court, and in internal investigations and white collar matters. Jayshree also has experience advising clients on ESG, corporate governance, and compliance and enforcement matters.
Jayshree received her J.D., cum laude, from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law where she was Chief Notes Editor of the Washington University Law Review and a teaching fellow for the Marshall Brennan Constitutional Literacy Program. She gained hands-on experience as a student attorney in the First Amendment Clinic and through internships at the United States District Court, Southern District of New York and the Investment Management Division of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Jayshree earned her B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis.
Representative experience
Successfully defended an investment adviser and its principal against False Claims Act allegations after an eight-day bench trial.
Successfully secured dismissal of a securities class action lawsuit against the former Chief Operating Officer of a NASDAQ-listed global logistics company.
Represented a global financial institution in ERISA class action relating to its 401(k) plan.
Advised the North American subsidiary of a global drinks manufacturer in matters arising from litigation and other disputes brought by former a contractual counterparty, including in post-litigation matters arising from New York's Adult Survivors Act and Child Victims Act.
Conducted an internal investigation to assess a U.S. multinational company's compliance with the FCPA in connection with business practices in China.
Conducted a workplace culture investigation on behalf of a Federal financial regulatory agency.
Represented a global online dating application company in internal investigation involving misconduct by senior executives regarding undisclosed conflicts of interest and failure to comply with mandatory reporting obligations.
Conducted an internal investigation to assess a global management consulting company's compliance with the FCPA in connection with business practices in South America.
Advised a U.S. multinational oil service company on FCPA, anti-bribery/anti-corruption, and sanctions compliance for MandA transactions.
Represented a former general counsel in connection with an SEC investigation of potential violations of a consent order.
Advised multiple employees and multinational investment bank and financial services company in internal investigations and related subpoenas advising from the SEC's review of industry compliance with books and records rules and regulation governing off channel communications and the retention of documents and communications located on or when using personal devices.
Represented a court-appointed guardian of a media personality in an action against the creators and distributors of a documentary.
