Hogan Lovells secures win for GE Healthcare in Italy

Press releases | 03 May 2021

Milan, 3 May 2021 – The Antitrust, Competition and Economic Regulation (ACER) practice at Hogan Lovells has secured a significant win for our client, GE Healthcare, before the Italian Competition Authority.

The high-profile and complex legal case focussed on the alleged abuse of dominant position in relation to the provision of maintenance services for diagnostic imaging equipment. The ACER and Intellectual Property, Media and Technology (IPMT) practices at Hogan Lovells played a crucial role.

The antitrust analysis involved as a matter of fact an understanding of complex technical issues and the need to reconcile IP protection, namely copyright, and competition law. The Italian Competition Authority has dismissed the case.

The antitrust team advising GE Healthcare in Italy was led by Sabrina Borocci, partner based in Milan and Brussels. The IP team was led by Luigi Mansani. The Hogan Lovells team also included senior associates Luigi Nascimbene, Eugenia Gambarara, Aurora Muselli, Giovanni Trabucco, and associate Marina Maccagno and Vanessa Guzzi. Clifford Chance were co-counsel in the case.
