Hogan Lovells awarded Global Competition Review's Merger Control Matter of the Year for the Americas
Global law firm Hogan Lovells has been awarded Global Competition Review's "Merger Control Matter of the Year - Americas" for its work in the UnitedHealth Group (UHG) and Change Healthcare “Change” transaction.
GCR's annual awards ceremony honors the most complex deals and cases of the year. The Hogan Lovells team represented UHG, one of the largest managed healthcare and insurance companies in America, in its acquisition of Change Healthcare for US$13 billion to merge with its Optum unit, bringing together complementary healthcare technology and driving innovation in the way healthcare products are delivered to clients.
The agreement survived intense scrutiny by state and federal regulators. In September 2022, following a two-week bench trial, a federal judge ruled that UHG’s acquisition of Change Healthcare could move forward. Hogan Lovells’ work on this transaction demonstrates our expertise on merger proceedings relating to highly regulated sectors and showcases our transactional capability in significant and high-value matters.
The Hogan Lovells antitrust team was led by partner Justin Bernick and included partners Chuck Loughlin, Logan Breed, and Ashley M. Howlett; counsel Bob Leibenluft; associates John Hamilton, Molly Pallman, Jamie Lee, Chris Fitzpatrick, Eric Sega, Meschelle Noble, Olga Fleysh, Jonathan Elsasser, Danny Mader, and Joseph Spoerl; attorneys Soyoun Yasuda and John Romney; and paralegals James Dalcero and Maxwell Hamilton.
